An ALA Unconference

ALA members can go to ALA Connect to read about an unconference that took place at ALA last week.. This page includes a twitter stream of conversation by people who attended the event. I didn't go to it myself (if you did, let us know in the comments) but many of the topics at the ALA unconference are similar to those we're covering here. At the UnconfeContinue

Are you ready to set the agenda?

Don't forget - this is an unconference! This means that the participants get to help decide what the content is going to be. If you're not following the discussion board already, then go look - and have your say! What do you want to know about participatory learning? What have you learned that you can pass on to other library instructors?
Go take a look at the Unconference entry in Wikipedia if you're curious about the uncon… Continue

The Idea Center

The Idea Center is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting teaching and learning in higher ed. They offer an entire series of "Notes on Instruction," short papers aimed at helping faculty improve their teaching. The Texas Collaborative for Teaching Excellence has an article, Professional Development Module on Teaching Techniques, that is a gold mine for active/collaborative/participatory teaching techniques. The article is broken down into sections for each particular technique (such as brainstorming, lecture, group discussion) and each section contains a short discussion of that technique with links to further information.… Continue

Workshop Parking

From Emily Brown:

For the unconference Friday you will be parking in the NORTH parking lot of the Muskogee Campus. You will turn onto N 24th Street from the Shawnee Bypass, or Route 62/16. There is a lot of parking @ NSU Muskogee, but because there will be another group using the facilities, you probably want to try to park behind the building with the

In keeping with ACRL's green initiatives, the unCOILed workshop is attempting to reduce its carbon footprint by asking participants to bring their own name tags from work or from another conference or one that you have made yourself (with recycled parts!).

Do you have an unusual, colorful, or creative name tag? We will have a contest for the most inventive name tag at the unCOILed workshop with a door prize for the winner. Think outside of the box, or… Continue
